Bandai 1/72 Scale X-Wing
When I was in high school in the 90's, I was obsessed with the X-Wing series of games by LucasArts. I joined an X-Wing Alliance gaming clan called Crimson Empire which competed in PvP events through the MSN Gaming Zone, and my clan nickname and user handle "Mynock" ended up following me across platforms for the next 27 years, becoming the inspiration for "Mynock's Den".
I wanted this X-Wing build to be a nod to those excellent games (which I still play to this day, now with mods and in VR!), so I imagined an anonymous “Red 3” that I might have flown alongside… or, more likely, blown up in a TIE in-game (for the Empire!)
With a model this small, I find it’s easy to go too heavy on the colours and weathering, so I tried to keep things subtle. I masked a lot of individual panels and painted them in slightly different shades of grey, then added some highlights by hand with pencils, markers, and acrylic paints. The only decals I used on the model are on the pilot’s helmet.
I snapped a few progress photos with my iPhone, then took the final shots with my Canon EOS R50 and telephoto lens.
I’d love to build a studio-scale X-Wing to face off against my AMT 1/32 scale TIE Fighter some day!
Thanks for looking!
