Kobalt

“Kobalt had been off-world on the Night of a Thousand Tears, carrying out a mission for the Countess - an absence that spared his life but shattered his world. In the years since, vengeance has become his creed. Every Imperial he hunts brings him closer to those directly responsible for the massacre of Mandalore. He moves like a ghost across the stars, armor scarred by battle, soul hollowed by loss, leaving behind only ruin and a whispered name: Kobalt.”

Took on this full helmet build commission back in the winter of 2025, and worked with the customer over several months to give the helmet the custom look he wanted, complete with reflective T-visor, bronze-cold cast accents, and removable MHAS Macrobinoculars that light up when lowered, turning off when raised. One power button controls both macros and ear LEDs. Wasn’t sure I could get the macros to light up and still be removable without redesigning my MHAS system for this commission, but I’m glad I got it to work!

Prior to casting (using a mix of Smooth-Cast 65D and ONYX resins by Smooth On), the helmet mold was powdered with fine aluminum powder. The molds for the cheek vents, key-slot piece at the back of the helmet, and all other bronze pieces seen in photos were powdered with bronze. All the cured resin pieces were then polished up to bring out the metallic sheen of both metals. (This process of infusing metallic powders with resin is known as “cold casting”). Therefore, the wear you see on the helmet isn’t painted on but is the result of scraping off the paint job to reveal the polished metallic surface underneath, which adds realism.
