Completed this Recon Large helmet in fall of 2024. This was cold-cast from Model-Pro Black and Tough-Cast 65D resins generously provided by @specialtyresins infused with aluminum powder (which, when polished up makes the surface look like metal).
The paint job: base coat was done with Rust-O-Leum Coastal Blue ultra matte spray paint. I use spray paint to give the paint coat a “thickness” (which I need for doing battle damage effects in a later step); I then do the final colour, secondary and accent colours with an airbrush using Tamiya acrylics.
Weathering was done with Army Painter, and MIG washes, Tamiya Weathering Master powders, and a custom alcohol ink mix; everything was then sealed up with Alclad clearcoat. The battle damage was done by heating the painted surface up with a heat gun, and then scraping off paint to reveal the aluminum-infused polished metallic surface underneath, as shown in this video.
Helmet features red LEDs in the ears powered by a 9v battery, removable and adjustable padding; custom MHAS ear Antenna and Side Module painted with Alumaluster.
